BOOYAH 3 – BIOS NOW UP

Friday 18th May

Coherent

REGGAE – JUNGLE – J.TEK – JUKE – FOOTWORK

One step forward. Two steps back.
Celebrating the past, present, and future of Jungle.

Being New Zealand music month and all we thought it fitting to showcase some of the countries freshest bass artists at BOOYAH 3. Almost everyone on the lineup is as serious about their music production as their DJing if not more. Expect to hear the most cutting edge Digi-dubs alongside a generous chunk of pure ‘olskool Jungle in its original vinyl glory.

KONJAH
Producing tunes and DJing for over a decade Konjah is no stranger to the dance. Since day dot he has been obsessed with looped and chopped breakbeats and was naturally drawn to Jungle and other break-heavy styles. Currently rocking his take on J-Tek, Jungle, Footwork and Future Bass keep an ear out for releases on Top Drawer Digital and other labels later this year. Guaranteed to be brimming with digital dubplates this badman’s set is not to be missed! Tune into his radio show Roots & Future 10-12PM Tuesday’s on Base FM.

JRED
A true pioneer of underground bass music Jred has been grinding for time. From Auckland to Christchurch and back again, he has been lurking in the background of our music scene for over 2 decades. DJing and representing the music he enjoys ‘no matter what’ there is a certain staunchness to his approach that sets him apart from his contemporaries. Jred has stayed constantly ahead of the curve and often presented new sounds to peeps well before they were ready for them. You were on D&B he was on UK Garage and 2step, you finally get your head around Dubstep and he is making Juke and Footwork / Jungle.

IRON WILL
RIDDIM CENTRAL head honcho Iron Will started his DJ career at age 13 and has been actively involved in the Auckland music scene ever since. He is responsible for bringing us events such as the seminal ONE FOUNDATION series and new Thursday night events at INK bar. Musically Will has worked with Silva MC, Solomonix, Homebrew, Shine Forum, Jah Red Lion, Tuffy Culture, Ras Stone & King Kapisi. Iron will be setting the tone on the night with a selection of Roots Reggae vibes.

PHIL O
Hailing from Dunedin Phil O has a solid history of supporting Jungle, Drum & Bass, and Dubstep. He co-promoted the likes of Loafah, Headhunter, Commix, Lynx and N-Type (Dunedin’s first Dubstep International) with then partner in crime Ollie ‘Undertow’ Crawford (Blambox). Also an avid DJ he is looking forward to dusting of the plates laying down a strictly vinyl Jungle set for us. Check out Phil O’s production efforts here.

STEEZIE WONDER B2B INSOMNIAC
Wait for the bass, these two both have DJd in the vicinity of 15 years and boast serious Jungle collections. The Fundamental boys Flex and Willy have taken it upon themselves to represent the original Jungle sound. From anthems to underground gems you can expect a heavy workout from these two as they both pride themselves on tight mixing and tune selection. Rewind!

Host MC ROOSTAR (UK)
Over the last two events Booyah has hosted some of the countries hottest vocal talent including Rugged Tekniques, King Kapisi and Imon Star. For Booyah 3 we are happy to introduce the latest UK import MC Roostar to the roster. You may have heard Roostar on the host and toast at ‘IT’S A LONDON TING’ or ‘IT’S A FOOTWRORK TING’ over the last month at INK. If you don’t know, get to know.
