The Lowdown on Artificial Intelligence…

Drum & Bass supergroup ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, have built a huge reputation upon the foundation of their unique production sound. The duo comprising of Zula Warner and Glenn Herweijer, have spent many years building their signature vibe over the last decade. Their debut artist album ‘Stand Alone’ came out at the end of 2010 on legendary record label V Recordings and was quickly nominated ‘Album Of The Year’ (all genres) by DJ Mag and iDJ. It’s success cementing its place in the Top 20 iTunes Album Chart.

‘Desperado’ – one of, if not the most renowned A.I. track – was nominated by the public as Radio 1’s ‘Number 1 Drum & Bass Tune Of The Year’ in 2006. Held in high regard by industry peers and fans as one of the biggest anthems of the past decade, since then the pair have had a string of number one hits on the BBC Drum & Bass charts. These include ‘Uprising’, ‘Bloodlines’, ‘Days Of Rage’ and ‘Three’s A Crowd’.

A.I. have had the honour of remixing the likes of Kelis, Eric Prydz, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Skepta and Goldie. New projects on the horizons include remixes for Lana Del Ray and Delilah as well as a new project with New Zealand’s finest musician, Tiki Taane. Their latest remix of Ill Audio Chase and Roots Manuva’s ‘Chase’, continues to smash up dancefloors around the globe, having received massive support from the scene’s heavyweights!

2011 saw an explosion of new material with vocalists such as Ayah Marah, Jakes and Steo among others. Their own remix of ‘Pigeon Hole’ featuring DRS (and backed on a 12” with Dillinja’s remix of ‘Uprising’) spent 6 weeks at No.1 in Radio 1’s Drum & Bass chart. So did their massive remix of Ayah Marah’s ‘Follow You’ released on Ministry Of Sound.

Originally signed to V Recordings, their productions have also graced internationally renowned labels such as Soul:R, Metalheadz, Full Cycle, Good Looking, Commercial Suicide, CIA, Innerground, EXIT and their own imprint, Integral Records.

Through the progression of their production career they have also become DJs renowned for their versatile sound, regularly touring around the globe featuring on some of the world’s most well-known festivals and club nights. They regularly headline at Fabric in their hometown of London, and showcase their epic drum and bass grooves at nights such as Hype’s Tru Playaz, Andy C’s Ram, Goldie’s Metalheadz, Marcus Intalex’s A Bunch Of Cuts, and V Recordings’ Planet V Specials.

Currently the A.I. boys are back in their Camden studio finishing up another project with Ayah. Their latest release hits the shelves in October on legendary label Metalheadz Platinum. The 12 features ‘Mad One’ with Jamakabi from So Solid Crew on vocals and is backed with ‘Broken Grounds’ a collaboration with Command Strange and is being heavily rewound by everyone from Goldie, Friction and DJ Marky to Andy C, Bailey among others. A second, and now highly anticipated Metalheadz release will be coming in January featuring DRS and Steo. Other exciting projects are also in motion for V Recordings and Shogun. So all in all, very big things are in the pipeline for this exceptionally talented duo. These boys are definitely the ones to watch closely in current Drum & Bass times.
